Matthew is a patent agent at Shumaker & Sieffert. He has a technically diverse background with experience handling all aspects of domestic patent application preparation and prosecution in the electrical, software, and mechanical arts. He has worked closely with a range of clients, from large companies to individual inventors, to develop and execute patent strategies in both domestic and foreign jurisdictions. Prior to practicing patent law, Matthew worked at a medical device company as an electrical engineer for implantable medical devices, and later as a hardware design engineer for external medical applications. As a student, he conducted research in the field of molecular electronics by designing, fabricating and characterizing novel nanoscale field-effect devices. In addition, he taught courses in MEMS design, the science and engineering of thin film materials and semiconductor physics. Matthew earned both his B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.
